The AIAA Diversity Scholars Program seeks to provide opportunities for underrepresented university students who have an interest in or are pursuing a degree in aerospace to attend an AIAA forum or event.

AIAA forums and events draw professionals and students from around the world. Scholars will have the opportunity to expand their network, learn about opportunities available in the aerospace industry, and hear from engineers and scientists on the latest research and development findings helping to shape the future of aerospace. Special sessions will also be designed to enhance the scholars’ experience.

Students from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, gender minorities, individuals with disabilities, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, first-generation students, and women have historically been underrepresented in STEM fields therefore, they will receive priority in funding. Applicants are not required to be AIAA student members to be accepted into the Diversity Scholars Program.

The NASA L'SPACE Academy is a free, online, interactive program open to undergraduate STEM students interested in pursuing a career with NASA or other space organizations.

L'SPACE consists of two Academies - the Mission Concept Academy, and the NASA Proposal Writing and Evaluation Experience Academy. Students may participate in one Academy per semester. Each 12-week Academy is designed to provide unique, hands-on learning and insight into the dynamic world of the space industry. Students can expect to learn NASA mission procedures and protocols from industry professionals as they collaborate with fellow team members to complete mission-related team-projects.

Requirements for participation: students must be enrolled in a US college or University as an undergrad (graduate students may apply to NPWEE); have access to a computer with internet, webcam, and headset capabilities; and have time to devote an additional 6-10 hours per week, beyond the online session requirements, towards team projects.

What is the MESA Idea Accelerator course? The MESA IDEA Accelerator course will help students become visionary entrepreneurs and engage in developing solutions to societal problems using human-centered design (HCD).

Students will be guided through three phases of the HCD process: inspiration, ideation, and implementation and produce a marketable prototype pitch.

If you're interested in the space sciences (astrobiology, astronomy, astrophysics, computer science, engineering, physics, etc.), check out CAMPARE and expect a deadline around 1/31 or 2/1. It is a summer research program that pays about $5000 for 8 weeks of research. They do this with a cohort model, so there are workshops and activities during the year to help students get to know each other, but students go to lots of different research sites, with travel and housing paid for. CAMPARE can be done before or after you leave community college and is for those planning to transfer to any CSU campus (Cal Poly Pomona, CSU San Bernardino, etc.).
Cal-Bridge is for those who transfer to a CSU and hope to go to a UC for their masters in engineering, astrophysics, physics, computer science, etc. It pays for two years of undergrad tuition and first year of masters tuition. Cal-Bridge participants are paired with two mentors - a CSU faculty member and a UC faculty member who support students through their educational journey. For more information click here Cal-Bridge.
Most scholarship opportunities fall into one of two categories: SBVC Foundation Scholarships or Outside scholarships. In order to maneuver the scholarship process, you need to understand the difference between these two types of scholarships. SBVC scholarship applications are due in January. Be sure to apply! For more information, see the Foundation Scholarships link on this page: SBVC Scholarships.

College can be expensive. That’s why scholarships for women are so valuable. First, they help lower the cost of going to school, which is worthwhile in itself. Second, they are only open to female students, making them potentially less competitive.

If you have a girl getting ready to head to college, here is the ultimate list of scholarships for women and girls.
